Electrification in the home was not easily accepted. Having lived and managed without power for many years there was a definite reluctance to accept this new concept of electricity in their home or business. Many were suspicious of the safety and preferred to retain \u00a0\u00a0old ways. Originally only a few lights or outlets might be installed in a house. This lady is right up with the times doing her washing in a tub with ear plugs delivering a radio program!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

L\u2019\u00e9lectrification r\u00e9sidentielle n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 accept\u00e9e facilement. Apr\u00e8s s\u2019\u00eatre d\u00e9brouill\u00e9s sans \u00e9lectricit\u00e9 pendant de nombreuses ann\u00e9es, les gens \u00e9prouvaient une r\u00e9ticence certaine \u00e0 laisser entrer ce nouveau concept dans leur maison ou leur entreprise. Pour des raisons de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, les gens se m\u00e9fiaient de l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 et pr\u00e9f\u00e9raient conserver leurs anciennes fa\u00e7ons de faire. Au d\u00e9but, seules quelques lampes ou prises \u00e9lectriques pouvaient \u00eatre install\u00e9es dans les maisons. Cette dame est tout \u00e0 fait dans l\u2019air du temps\u00a0: elle fait sa lessive dans une cuve et porte des \u00e9couteurs qui transmettent une \u00e9mission diffus\u00e9e \u00e0 la radio\u2009!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Electrical appliances were rare for monetary reasons as well as a \u00ab\u00a0this works for me\u00a0\u00bb attitude. This lady is using an electric light while using her pedal sewing machine. Well into the 1940\u2019s there were still many ice boxes and wood or coal stoves in kitchens, enough to require a daily delivery service.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Les appareils \u00e9lectriques \u00e9taient rares, en raison de leur co\u00fbt et du fait que les gens \u00e9taient satisfaits de la mani\u00e8re habituelle dont les choses se faisaient. Cette dame utilise une lampe \u00e9lectrique tout en se servant de sa machine \u00e0 coudre \u00e0 p\u00e9dale.
