On June 21, 2023, the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019histoire de Rawdon obtained authorization from Mr. Marcel Fournier to digitize his book on the history of Rawdon entitled Rawdon: 175 ans d\u2019histoire<\/em> publi\u00e9 en 1974 et \u00e0 le diffuser sur son site Internet.<\/span> La Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019histoire de Rawdon a aussi obtenu la permission de mettre \u00e0 jour les informations contenues dans le livre.<\/p>

The Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d'histoire de Rawdon has digitized this book. It comprises 316 pages, including a 70-page summary in English. Downloading the digitized version in PDF format requires the transfer of 7.1 megabytes (MB).<\/p>

Born in Sherbrooke in 1946, Marcel Fournier has lived in Longueuil, in the Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie region, since 1974. A historian, author, speaker and genealogist emeritus, he has had an interest in history since 1970, particularly in the origins of our ancestors. He has authored 45 publications and 160 articles in the areas of history and genealogy published in different journals in Quebec and France. Marcel Fournier was president of the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9alogique canadienne-fran\u00e7aise (French-Canadian genealogy society) from 1999 to 2006. From 2006 to 2009, he led the Projet Montcalm sur les soldats de la guerre de Sept Ans en Nouvelle-France (Montcalm project on the soldiers of the Seven Years\u2019 War in New France), a publication honoured with the Robert-Pr\u00e9vost award in 2011. From 1998 to 2016, he was the coordinator of the Fichier Origine (origin file). Between 2011 and 2014, he collaborated on two genealogy television series: Le Qu\u00e9bec une histoire de famille<\/em> and to Qui \u00eates-vous?<\/em> Recipient of several awards and distinctions, including the Archange-Godbout award, he was elected a full member of the International Academy of Genealogy in San Marino, in June 2001. From 2005 to 2019, he chaired the commemoration committee of the Commission franco-qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise sur les lieux de m\u00e9moire communs (France-Quebec commission on shared heritage sites). Marcel Fournier received the insignia of Officer of France\u2019s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (order of arts and letters), on June 10, 2010. On February 17, 2012, he received the Prix des Dix award. In 2023, he received the Quebec Lieutenant Governor\u2019s Medal for his total body of work.<\/p>
