D\u00e8s leur installation dans le Canton de Rawdon, les premiers occupants auront compris le r\u00f4le essentiel de la <strong>Foresterie. <\/strong>Si Joseph Dugas pr\u00e9tend \u00eatre le premier occupant du Canton vers 1815, son fr\u00e8re Phil\u00e9mon aura t\u00f4t fait de le rejoindre et d\u2019y construire un moulin \u00e0 scie. Ce moulin, situ\u00e9 sur la rivi\u00e8re Rouge, servait surtout \u00e0 produire les mat\u00e9riaux n\u00e9cessaires \u00e0 la construction d\u2019habitations pour la population locale. Le Canton de Rawdon disposait de plusieurs essences de bois tr\u00e8s recherch\u00e9es notamment le pin blanc, l\u2019orme, le ch\u00eane et l\u2019\u00e9rable. Rawdon avait d\u2019ailleurs tout ce qui \u00e9tait n\u00e9cessaire pour que ses for\u00eats contribuent \u00e0 son d\u00e9veloppement avec, en plus de la ressource naturelle, les cours d\u2019eau pour le transport des grumes (la pitoune) et la force motrice pour actionner les moulins.
