Les moulins \u00e0 scie font partie du paysage de nombreux villages du Qu\u00e9bec au 19e si\u00e8cle. Le canton de Rawdon ne fera pas exception. Plus encore, un moulin construit dans le premier rang par Phil\u00e9mon Dugas et ses associ\u00e9s donnera le coup d\u2019envoi au d\u00e9veloppement de son territoire. Pour la plupart, ces moulins \u00e9taient actionn\u00e9s par la puissance de l\u2019eau. L\u2019\u00e9quipement se limitait \u00e0 une seule scie \u00e0 mouvement alternatif et d\u2019un m\u00e9canisme manuel d\u2019alimentation en billots. Cet \u00e9quipement \u00e9tait log\u00e9 dans un b\u00e2timent dot\u00e9 d\u2019une structure relativement simple \u00e0 construire. Ils produisaient des madriers et des planches pour le march\u00e9 local. Les billots \u00e9taient sci\u00e9s tr\u00e8s lentement et la production d\u00e9passait rarement quelques centaines de planches ou madriers par jour. Pour la plupart, ces moulins fonctionnaient \u00e0 temps partiel et sur une base saisonni\u00e8re. Several mills have been built on the Rouge River in Rawdon township since its creation in 1799. The Rouge River crosses Rawdon township upstream from lot 28 of the eleventh range (bordering Saint-Alphonse) to what was lot 27 of the township\u2019s first range (now on the territory of Saint-Liguori).<\/p>

The Rouge River is the largest tributary of the Ouareau River. Its confluence is located in the municipality of Crabtree. Estimates by specialists (1, 2, 3) put the average flow at the outlet of Rawdon Lake at around 1.91 m\u00b3\/second. The flood flow is estimated at 7 m\u00b3\/second, while the flow during the low-water period (July to October) is assessed at only 0.7 m\u00b3\/second. These flows are ten times lower than those of the Ouareau River.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

There are a number of factors that influence the choice of a site for the construction of a water-powered mill. In simple terms, it must first be recalled that the power generated by the water varies according to flow rate and head. The chosen site must also facilitate the supply of raw materials (logs and grain) and have a customer base that needs the processed products (planks and flours). With the means of transport available at the time, it is highly likely that the first mills served a nearby territory.<\/p>

These mills were located near Route 346 (\u201cMontcalm corner\u201d) and the Montcalm Golf Club.<\/p>

A genealogical study (4) of the first families to settle in Rawdon, conducted by Daniel Parkinson, reveals that the first rights of occupancy were issued to various immigrants having come mainly from Ireland.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Daniel Parkinson reports that a certain Joseph Dugas, an Acadian from Massachusetts, indicated in his application for a grant that he had been a resident of Rawdon township since 1816. The road he traced to his land provided the first access to the territory. His brother Phil\u00e9mon (sometimes identified as Phil\u00e9mon Firmin) followed him and, between 1816 and 1817, built a sawmill on lot 24 of Range 1.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/strong>In 1820, thirty families were granted the right to settle in Rawdon by government decree (Order in Council). Phil\u00e9mon Dugas obtained his ticket of location in November 1820. The site of this mill is shown on the map of Rawdon and Kildare townships prepared by Joseph Bouchette Junior, dated October 31, 1821.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

To build his mill, Phil\u00e9mon enlisted the help of Isaac Dugas and his brother-in-law Pierre Richard, married to Isaac\u2019s sister F\u00e9licit\u00e9. Alexandre Riopel tells us, in an article published in 2014 in Histoire Qu\u00e9bec<\/em>, que les grands-p\u00e8res d\u2019Isaac et de Phil\u00e9mon, deux fr\u00e8res nomm\u00e9s Joseph et Claude \u00e9taient meuniers du moulin de l\u2019Achigan et du moulin d\u2019en bas appartenant aux sulpiciens. Phil\u00e9mon, Isaac et Pierre officialiseront leur association en f\u00e9vrier 1817. Par le m\u00eame acte notari\u00e9 (5), Pierre Richard acceptait de c\u00e9der \u00e0 la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 le lot 24. Cette association fut \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re. En juin 1817, les associ\u00e9s convenaient (6) de dissoudre la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et de vendre le moulin et le lot 24 \u00e0 Phil\u00e9mon Dugas. L\u2019acte transf\u00e9rait \u00e9galement le droit de placer, dans le moulin \u00e0 scie, une moulange pour moudre le grain. Phil\u00e9mon Dugas et sa femme s\u2019associeront par la suite, soit entre mars 1818 et mars 1820 \u00e0 Martin S. Parker (7).<\/p>

Documentation presently available does not identify the person who sold lot 24 to Pierre Richard. There may have been other owners before Pierre Richard, but James Sawers, who died in 1813, was the first owner of this lot. He obtained 500 acres, that is, the northeastern half of lot 21, as well as lots 22 and 24 of Range 1, by letters patent dated July 13, 1799 (8).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

To this sawmill, Phil\u00e9mon added, a few years later, a flour mill (grist mill), so that by the 1825 census (9), he owned both mills. Daniel Parkinson points out that Mr. Dugas made considerable improvements to his facilities. His house measured 36 by 30 feet, while his mills were 32 by 66 feet. The flour mill had three sets of stones. Two of these were used to produce wheat flour for export. The other was used to produce oat flour. The sawmill had two sets of saws. A fire that occurred during the night of December 31, 1829 (10), destroyed Phil\u00e9mon Dugas\u2019s flour mill and sawmill, causing losses estimated at 1,500 pounds. The mill would, however, be rebuilt.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Meanwhile, the Phil\u00e9mon\/Firmin family grew, with the birth of at least nine daughters and one son. They also adopted John Copping, born around 1812 and still a minor at the time Phil\u00e9mon Dugas and his wife wrote their wills (11). The son, born on March 8, 1830, was named Firmin and was to take over the business. Phil\u00e9mon Dugas\u2019s extended family would also contribute to the operation of the mills. The eldest, Bibiane, took Zacharie Clouthier as her husband. Phil\u00e9mon\u2019s son by adoption, John Copping, first worked as an apprentice, then married Julie (1811-1872) in 1837. Adaline (1814-1873) married Daniel Truesdell in 1835. Finally, Anne (1822-1908) united her destiny with that of William Lord in 1846.<\/p>

According to Daniel Parkinson (12), it is plausible that Phil\u00e9mon Dugas remained the owner of these mills until his death on July 19, 1864. Very early on, however, Phil\u00e9mon\u2019s sons-in-law and sons played an active role in the operation of the mills in Rawdon and the surrounding area. The Copping family operated mills in Rawdon until the middle of the 20th century. The 1852 census mentioned that the flour mills then had a production capacity with four sets of stones....which suggests that the Dugas family operated mills on more than one site.<\/p>

A contract (13) drawn up before notary S. Ulric Brien dit Desrochers concerning a financial transaction (loan and mortgages) confirms the business relationship between Firmin Dugas, the son, and John Copping. In this contract, Firmin Dugas was identified as Esquire and bourgeois, while John Copping was identified as a miller. This deed also showed that Firmin Dugas owned lot 24 of Range 1 with the flour mill, while John Copping owned the southeast quarter of lot 18 of Range 5 with the sawmill and flour mill.<\/p>

Established as a Catholic parish in 1853 (March 16), Saint-Liguori received its civil recognition in 1880 (June 26). Lot 24 of Range 1 will be part of the territory of the Township of Rawdon annexed by decree dated May 9, 1854 to the parish of Saint-Liguori.\u00a0<\/p>

Firmin Dugas, the son, died suddenly on March 16, 1889, at the age of 59, such that the mill was abandoned while a succession involving several lots and minor children was settled. Jean Gagnon, a Saint-Liguori historian, continued the story as follows (14):<\/p>

\u201cLater, around 1900, the water power was sold by Louis Dugas, Member of the Provincial Parliament, son of Firmin, to his cousins Sam, Georges and William Lord; they completely rebuilt the two mills and dug a canal over a distance of 7 arpents (about 400 metres) to carry water from the Rouge River. The mills were back in operation by September 1902 (p. 22).<\/em><\/p>

\u00a0<\/em>\u201c...the corn and buckwheat flour mill was gradually abandoned, but the sawmill continued to run. It was sold to a man named Chicoine during the \u201cdepression,\u201d but he had to return it for lack of payment. Mr. Alcide L\u00e9vesque, the current owner, bought it from Georges Lord in 1938 (p. 138).\u201d [Translation]<\/em><\/p>

Construits et reconstruits \u00e0 quelques reprises, les moulins \u00e0 scie et \u00e0 farine des chutes Mason auront connu une longue existence. \u00a0<\/p>

Des donn\u00e9es r\u00e9centes obtenues \u00e0 la suite de recherches syst\u00e9matiques dans les archives de notaires effectu\u00e9es par Guillaume Petit ont permis de confirmer diverses informations et de revoir certaines hypoth\u00e8ses quant \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence de moulins \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 des chutes Mason.<\/p>

The 1851 census records indicated that Mr. Dugas then had two sawmills with five sets of saws and a flour mill with four sets of stones. He also enjoyed a privilege that gave him a monopoly on water mills on the Rouge River from lot 24 of Range 1 to lots 18 and 19 of Range 5.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

La documentation additionnelle fournie par Guillaume Petit et les compl\u00e9ments apport\u00e9s par Daniel Parkinson permettent de d\u00e9terminer que, durant la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du 19e si\u00e8cle, deux moulins \u00e0 scie auraient coexist\u00e9 \u00e0 l’emplacement qui deviendra connu comme les chutes Mason. Un de ces moulins sera construit sur la moiti\u00e9 Sud-Est du lot 18 du rang 5 tandis que l’autre sera construit sur la moiti\u00e9 Sud-Ouest du lot 19. Guillaume Petit souligne l\u2019importance de cette question de privil\u00e8ge sur son site. De nouvelles informations, obtenues en f\u00e9vrier 2026 \u00e0 la suite des recherches de Guillaume Petit, viennent confirmer qu\u2019en raison de ce privil\u00e8ge, Phil\u00e9mon Dugas poss\u00e9dait des moulins \u00e0 un autre emplacement, ce qui lui permettait de disposer de la capacit\u00e9 de production d\u00e9clar\u00e9e. Une analyse technique plus pouss\u00e9e en viendrait probablement \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer que l\u2019emplacement du moulin sur le lot\u00a024 ne disposait pas d\u2019une puissance suffisante pour justifier une telle capacit\u00e9 de production. Par contre, un ou des moulins install\u00e9s sur les lots\u00a018 et 19 du rang\u00a05 pouvaient disposer d\u2019une force motrice beaucoup plus importante. Ces lots correspondent \u00e0 un emplacement connu aujourd\u2019hui comme les chutes Mason. La carte Holtby supporte cette hypoth\u00e8se, car le nom de Dugan (sic Dugas) appara\u00eet comme propri\u00e9taire du lot\u00a019 du rang\u00a05.<\/p>

Le livre de Daniel Parkinson intitul\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Up to Rawdon\u00a0\u00bb et ses mises \u00e0 jour disponibles sur le site web contiennent plusieurs informations sur ces premi\u00e8res familles \u00e0 occuper le canton de Rawdon. Du groupe, Jeremiah Pratt, un machiniste de moulins (millwright) apparait, \u00e0 priori, comme le plus susceptible d\u2019avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 impliqu\u00e9 dans la construction d\u2019un moulin.<\/p>

La carte Holtby, d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par le secr\u00e9taire-tr\u00e9sorier de l\u2019\u00e9poque, contient des annotations identifiant les propri\u00e9taires des diff\u00e9rents lots vers 1845. De gauche \u00e0 droite et de haut en bas, une inscription manuscrite sur le lot 18 Nord-Ouest pourrait indiquer le nom de McGie soit le propri\u00e9taire initial du lot. La partie Sud-Est pourrait avoir d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 morcel\u00e9e et appartenir \u00e0 une personne dont le nom est illisible. Une autre portion Sud-Est de ce lot semble indiquer le mot \u00ab\u00a0parsonage\u00a0\u00bb. Le moulin Pratt-Dugas\/Trusdell (<\/em>\u00bd<\/em><\/strong> S-O \u2013 Lot 19 – Rang 5)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

Ces informations permettent de croire que Phil\u00e9mon Dugas (sic Dugar), d\u00e9j\u00e0 propri\u00e9taire et op\u00e9rateur de moulin dans le rang 1, aurait acquis la partie Sud-Ouest du lot 19 de Jeremiah Pratt dans les ann\u00e9es qui suivirent la concession originale de mai 1834 et y aurait install\u00e9 un moulin \u00e0 scie. Diff\u00e9rents sc\u00e9narios sont possibles (construction par Pratt et achat par Dugas, achat du terrain et construction par Dugas, collaboration\/co-entreprise Pratt-Dugas et rachat par Phil\u00e9mon). Phil\u00e9mon en aurait confi\u00e9 l\u2019op\u00e9ration \u00e0 un de ses gendres, Daniel Trusdell de sorte que, dans son journal, George Copping fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au moulin Trusdell.<\/p>

Daniel Parkinson reprend les propos de George Copping en date du 16 mars 1837\u00a0:<\/p>

\u201cHenry took a log over to Mr. Truesdell\u2019s to be sawn.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Outre la pr\u00e9sence du nom de Jeremiah Pratt dans la liste des concessions, il n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible de retracer des pi\u00e8ces justificatives permettant de confirmer ces hypoth\u00e8ses.\u00a0<\/p>

Le moulin Cook-Rood-Dugas\/Trusdell (<\/em>\u00bd<\/strong> S-E \u2013 Lot 18 – Rang 5)<\/strong><\/p>

En ce qui a trait au demi-lot Sud-Est du lot 18, deux contrats sign\u00e9s le 29 ao\u00fbt 1844 et le 15 octobre 1845 devant, respectivement, Me Joseph Dufresne et Me Antoine Gauthier contiennent de nombreuses informations pertinentes. Le deuxi\u00e8me acte de vente permet \u00e0 Phil\u00e9mon Dugas et Daniel Trusdell (identifi\u00e9s comme marchands de bois), d\u2019acqu\u00e9rir conjointement la moiti\u00e9 sud-est du lot 18 (\u00bd S-E Lot 18 R5) du rang 5 appartenant \u00e0 Josiah S. Rood (\u00e9galement identifi\u00e9 comme marchand de bois) sur lequel est \u00e9rig\u00e9 un moulin \u00e0 scie double de type anglais. Ce terrain dispose d\u2019une superficie de cent acres. Des parcelles d\u2019un acre avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 vendues \u00e0 d\u2019autres personnes incluant le R\u00e9v\u00e9rend Bourns (justifiant le terme \u00ab\u00a0parsonage\u00a0\u00bb de la carte Holtby). Vendu pour un montant de 300 livres anglaises, Phil\u00e9mon Dugas en garantit le paiement par une hypoth\u00e8que en faveur du vendeur portant sur le demi-lot 19 du rang 5. L\u2019acte de vente pr\u00e9cise que ce demi-lot comprend un moulin, une maison et autres b\u00e2timents.<\/p>

Josiah Rood avait acquis ce terrain par contrat sign\u00e9 en 1844 devant Me Joseph Dufresne. Malheureusement, il n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible de retracer une copie de cet acte de vente. Bien que les noms soient ratur\u00e9s, il est probable que ce titre de propri\u00e9t\u00e9 sign\u00e9 devant Me Dufresne faisait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 une vente par Solomon Cook (le premier d\u00e9tenteur des Lettres Patentes) et Hiram Bateman (?).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ce deuxi\u00e8me moulin a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit entre le 22 mai 1834, date de l’obtention des lettres patentes par Solomon Cook, et la date de la vente de ce moulin \u00e0 Phil\u00e9mon Dugas et Daniel Trusdell (le 15 octobre 1845).\u00a0 Il n’a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 construit par Phil\u00e9mon Dugas, mais les informations disponibles ne permettent pas de d\u00e9terminer qui l’a construit.<\/p>

\u00c0 partir d\u2019octobre 1845, Phil\u00e9mon Dugas est donc propri\u00e9taire de deux moulins \u00e0 scie situ\u00e9s \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 des chutes connues aujourd\u2019hui sous le nom de Mason.<\/p>

Une carte extraite du site du Greffe de l\u2019Arpenteur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Qu\u00e9bec d\u00e9limitant les lots permet d\u2019\u00e9tablir que la rivi\u00e8re Rouge coule sur ces lots 18 et 19 du rang 5 et qu\u2019elle chevauche la ligne d\u00e9limitant le lot 18 du lot 19, le tout pr\u00e8s de l\u2019emplacement des chutes Mason.<\/p>

Phil\u00e9mon Dugas aurait donc confi\u00e9 l\u2019op\u00e9ration des moulins sur les lots 18 et 19 du rang 5 \u00e0 un de ses gendres, Daniel Truesdell. Daniel Trusdell, rappelons-le, a \u00e9pous\u00e9 Adaline Dugas en 1835. La Commission de toponymie du Qu\u00e9bec (18) ajoute que Daniel Truesdell obtient, le 23\u00a0mars 1853, un lot dans le Canton de Chertsey. Il construit un moulin \u00e0 scie en 1855 qu\u2019il c\u00e8de \u00e0 son fils Daniel en 1871. Peu de temps avant l\u2019obtention du lot dans Chertsey, soit le 8 f\u00e9vrier 1853 (Acte no 1150 \u2013 Me Jules Bourgeois), Daniel Truesdell c\u00e9dera \u00e0 Phil\u00e9mon Dugas, son beau-p\u00e8re, la part qu\u2019ils avaient achet\u00e9e conjointement.<\/p>

Le 17 juin 1854, par acte no 1483 pass\u00e9 devant Me Jules Bourgeois, Phil\u00e9mon et sa femme Martha Edwards c\u00e8dent \u00e0 William Lord, constructeur de moulins, et \u00e0 John Copping ma\u00eetre-meunier, leurs gendres, la moiti\u00e9 sud-est du lot 18 du rang 5 b\u00e2tie d’une maison et d’un moulin \u00e0 scie et la moiti\u00e9 sud-ouest du lot 19 b\u00e2ti d’une maison et d’un moulin \u00e0 scie double. John Copping aurait ensuite c\u00e9d\u00e9 les moulins \u00e0 son beau-fr\u00e8re, William Lord (1817-1860), un m\u00e9canicien de moulin (millwright). \u00c0 la suite de son mariage avec Mary Copping (1841-1912) le 9\u00a0avril 1861, Edward Mason obtient le moulin de John Copping. Son nom appara\u00eet au recensement de 1871 comme propri\u00e9taire d\u2019un moulin \u00e0 scie et d\u2019un moulin \u00e0 farine. Ce recensement fournit des pr\u00e9cisions sur les moulins appartenant \u00e0 M.\u00a0Mason. Il y est mentionn\u00e9 que ces moulins ont une valeur de 1200\u00a0$ chacun et des puissances d\u00e9clar\u00e9es de 20 H.P. pour le moulin \u00e0 farine et 10 H.P. pour le moulin \u00e0 scie. \u00c0 cette p\u00e9riode, la technologie des moulins avait \u00e9volu\u00e9 et il devenait maintenant possible de doter ces installations d\u2019une force motrice beaucoup plus importante.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Cette lame de scie circulaire a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte par Maciej Zubek et sa s\u0153ur Agnieszka alors qu\u2019ils exploraient les eaux des chutes Mason dans les ann\u00e9es 1980. Jeunes adolescents, Maciej et Agnieszka, originaires de Pologne, \u00e9taient fascin\u00e9s par la beaut\u00e9 du territoire entourant les chutes Mason. Aujourd\u2019hui, la lame a \u00e9t\u00e9 confi\u00e9e \u00e0 Elizabeth Chodkowski, membre du conseil d\u2019administration de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019histoire de Rawdon.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Daniel Parkinson nous en apprend un peu plus sur Edward Mason. N\u00e9 le 11\u00a0septembre 1829 \u00e0 Saint-Sulpice, il meurt le 25\u00a0ao\u00fbt 1889, laissant \u00e0 Mary 375\u00a0acres de terre, deux moulins \u00e0 scie, un moulin \u00e0 moudre les grains (grist mill), un moulin \u00e0 farine, plusieurs maisons de ferme avec d\u00e9pendances, une maison avec d\u00e9pendances et une maison dans le village (documents de la famille Mason tels que cit\u00e9s dans le livre Up to Rawdon<\/em>). Ce legs corrobore l\u2019information \u00e0 l\u2019effet que Edward Mason avait fait l\u2019acquisition du moulin \u00e0 scie situ\u00e9 sur le lot\u00a028 du Rang\u00a010 de Rawdon et ayant appartenu \u00e0 Jean Louis et Andr\u00e9 Brien Desrochers. H\u00e9riti\u00e8re des biens d\u2019Edward Mason, Mary Copping les c\u00e8dera \u00e0 son fils James Mason par acte notari\u00e9 en date du 24 septembre 1890 pass\u00e9 devant Me Desaulniers.\u00a0 Dans le journal L\u2019\u00c9toile du Nord<\/em> , James Mason Jr. advertised that the Mason family property was for sale. This \u201cmagnificent\u201d property included 200 acres of land as well as sawmill and a flour mill. An article dated March 26, 1896, in the same newspaper reported that a fire had destroyed James C. Mason's sawmill and flour mill. The losses were estimated at $4,750 and covered by $2,700 in insurance. Il n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible d\u2019identifier \u00e0 qui et en quelle ann\u00e9e James Mason a vendu ses moulins \u00e0 scie et \u00e0 farine. Cependant, le 14 avril 1908, Misa\u00ebl Neveu et William Barrie cr\u00e9ent la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Barrie & Neveu\u00a0\u00bb et, pour la constituer, mettent en commun certains actifs \u00e9valu\u00e9s \u00e0 $ 24\u00a0000. William Barrie y contribue \u00e0 hauteur de $\u00a012\u00a0000 notamment en mettant \u00e0 la disposition de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 le lot 19 a du rang 5 avec un moulin \u00e0 scie et un moulin \u00e0 farine, la machinerie, un barrage et le pouvoir d\u2019eau qui alimente le tout. Cette soci\u00e9t\u00e9 fut bien \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re, car, le 29 septembre 1909, William Barrie vendait \u00e0 Misa\u00ebl Neveu la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 avec les moulins et proc\u00e9dait \u00e0 une dissolution de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, le tout consign\u00e9 dans un acte de vente sign\u00e9 devant Me<\/sup> C. G. H. Beaudoin.<\/p>

Misa\u00ebl Neveu vend les moulins le 14 f\u00e9vrier 1913, mais les fait fonctionner jusqu\u2019en juillet 1914 comme le permet l\u2019acte de vente sign\u00e9 devant Me Gaspard-Alexis Archambault. Deux \u00e9l\u00e9ments aident \u00e0 localiser l\u2019endroit o\u00f9 \u00e9taient situ\u00e9s les moulins\u00a0: le contenu de l\u2019acte de vente par Misa\u00ebl Neveu \u00e0 James Williamson Ross (no 8220 du 14 f\u00e9vrier 1913) pass\u00e9 devant le notaire Archambault et deux images, un tableau peint par Sarah Alice Mason Copping et une photographie des chutes Mason.<\/p>
